A local resident was detained in the Kharkiv region after being recruited by Russian intelligence to gather information on Ukrainian troops in Volchansk.
This was reported to the publication "Dumka" by the spokesperson for the SBU in the Kharkiv region, Vladislav Abdula.
According to him, the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered and apprehended a local resident in the Chuhuiv district of Kharkiv, who had been collaborating with Russian intelligence to prepare enemy attacks on Ukrainian soldiers in Volchansk. The 34-year-old man, who remained in the city despite the threat of shelling, was gathering coordinates of Ukrainian troop locations and passing them to the occupiers.
It was noted that the perpetrator, an unemployed local resident, had been recruited remotely even before the new offensive by Russian forces in Kharkiv. Under the direction of his handlers, the agent would survey the defenses and positions of Ukrainian soldiers, documenting the locations of military units, repair points, and ammunition depots. After each outing, he sent reports to his "handler" in the game, which were used for precise shelling of defense positions.
SBU counterintelligence agents detained him while he was attempting to leave the city to visit his mother. During the search, a phone was found in the suspect's possession containing records of contacts with Russian special services and other evidence of his criminal activities.
The man has already been informed of suspicion under the article concerning treason. He is being held in custody without the right to bail, and this crime could result in a life sentence with confiscation of property.
