30-year-old actress Emma Dumont, star of Christopher Nolan's film "Oppenheimer," has come out as a non-binary transgender man and revealed a new name. She announced this on her Instagram page. The star updated her bio, adding "Nick Dumont" to her profile and using the pronouns "they/them" instead of "she/her." No public statements have been made regarding this change.
Her representative emphasized the intentions in a comment to TMZ.
"They identify as a non-binary transgender man," he said, adding that Dumont will retain her working name, but will use a male name in personal life.
"Their working name will still be Emma Dumont, but among friends and family, they will be called Nick."
In May, Dumont debuted a bold, short, choppy haircut— a departure from her usual long straight hair. She also shifted her glamorous style to a more casual look, frequently appearing in t-shirts and sunglasses.
Last year, Dumont gained international recognition for her role in the Oscar-winning film "Oppenheimer," where she starred alongside Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Florence Pugh. Christopher Nolan's film tells the story of Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist also known as the father of the atomic bomb.
Dumont played the role of Oppenheimer's daughter-in-law, Jackie.
The actress is also known for her role in the FOX series "The Gifted," a drama about a suburban family whose children develop mutant abilities. The series takes place in an alternate timeline of the X-Men. Dumont plays Polaris, the daughter of Magneto, who struggles with bipolar disorder.
"The Gifted" premiered in 2017 but was canceled after its second season in 2019.
Dumont's next project will be the horror film "New Me," where she plays Andriana. The plot revolves around a young mother who uncovers layers of forgotten trauma to emotionally connect with her child and husband, but pays a terrible price for it.
The release date for the film has not yet been determined.
