An anonymous source close to U.S. President Donald Trump believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should immediately leave Ukraine for France, writes the tabloid New York Post.
The source stated that it would be best for both Volodymyr Zelensky and the world if he "immediately left for France." According to insiders, there are very few supporters of the Ukrainian leader in Trump's inner circle, if any at all.
Journalists note that many in the U.S. viewed Zelensky as a hero on par with Winston Churchill, who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War II. Americans admired the unwavering resistance of the Ukrainian president to Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022 and how he rejected Joe Biden's offer to leave the country with the words: "I need weapons, not a taxi."
An anonymous American official told the tabloid that the Republican Party is currently "a big tent against Ukraine," and there are "people in the White House with a traditional Republican stance on Zelensky," although no specific names or examples were given.
"The Trump administration clearly does not like Zelensky and is doing everything to make that known," said an anonymous Ukrainian military officer and political scientist to NYP.
According to him, Trump's recent remarks indicate that he is pushing for early elections in Ukraine to bring someone more amenable to peace negotiations with the Russian Federation into the presidential seat.
Insiders from Washington informed journalists that there is currently no specific candidate that the U.S. president would prefer.
Recall that on January 19, Donald Trump criticized Volodymyr Zelensky on his social network Truth Social. He stated that the Ukrainian president has a very low level of public support, and called Zelensky a "dictator without elections".
On February 20, The Economist reported that Trump wants to remove Zelensky, ignoring the negative consequences for Ukraine of holding presidential elections during wartime.
