The British tabloid Daily Star created a cover featuring Donald Trump in a caricatured portrayal as "Putin's Poodle" after the U.S. President claimed that Vladimir Zelensky had provoked Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The tabloid published the new cover on the evening of February 19.
The newspaper states that Donald Trump attempted to distort history by unfairly attacking the Ukrainian president while ignoring the responsibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin for the invasion.
"Donald Trump shocked the world by stating that Ukraine started the war with Russia," the journalists noted.
The authors cited statements from the 47th U.S. President claiming that Zelensky "shouldn't have started the war" and that Kyiv could have "easily resolved" it by reaching an agreement.
Trump also labeled Zelensky a "dictator without elections" and accused him of "terrible work" as president and "ruining the country." He asserted that Vladimir Zelensky's support rating "dropped to 4%" and announced a meeting with Putin by the end of February.
The President of Ukraine responded to the accusations, pointing out that Trump has fallen into a "disinformation" bubble of fake Russian propaganda, specifically noting that the claim of 4% is coming from the Kremlin.
"With all due respect to President Donald Trump as a leader... he lives in this space of disinformation," Zelensky said.
According to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), the trust rating of Ukrainians in Vladimir Zelensky stands at 57%. The head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, noted that this is 4-5% higher than the level of trust Americans have in U.S. President Donald Trump.
During a speech in Miami on the night of February 19-20, Donald Trump stated that during the war, Russia lost 900,000 people, while Ukraine lost 700,000.
