American billionaire and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk stated that the previous U.S. administration paid millions of dollars to Reuters for "massive social deception." He wrote about this on the social network X.
"The U.S. government paid millions of dollars to Reuters for 'massive social deception.' This is literally what is stated in the purchase order! It’s complete fraud," he remarked.
This was Elon Musk's response to a post by American entrepreneur Mario Nawfal, which claimed that from 2018 to 2022, the Pentagon paid Reuters nine million dollars for a "large-scale social engineering" program.
"The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) claims that the funds were spent on cybersecurity. The question arises as to why the news agency received millions for 'social engineering.' This revelation comes at a time when other media are investigating federal funding," Nawfal noted.
At the time of this news publication, Reuters had not commented on the statements made by Musk and Nawfal.
It’s worth mentioning that Elon Musk also wants to review U.S. military spending. The businessman has criticized the expensive Pentagon programs, particularly the development of the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet.
A group of investors led by Elon Musk has expressed a desire to acquire the organization that controls OpenAI. The price tag is approaching 100 billion dollars.
