Ukrainian officials at a high level are negotiating with the administration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war. This was reported on December 4 by The Wall Street Journal citing sources.

An unnamed Trump official mentioned that the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, is set to meet with the future special representative for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, and the future national security advisor, Michael Waltz.

It is noted that Trump’s team is not very interested in Ukraine’s proposal regarding NATO membership, which President Volodymyr Zelensky considers a vital security guarantee.

Yermak has already met in Florida with the future White House Chief of Staff, Suzy Wiles. According to the publication, Ukraine plans to express its readiness for peace.

"But it must be a sustainable peace. An unstable, temporary peace does not serve the interests of either the U.S. or Ukraine," emphasized a source familiar with Kyiv's position.

Trump's advisors have suggested recognizing Russia's seizure of about 20% of Ukrainian territory and temporarily denying the country the opportunity to join NATO. Additionally, representatives of the first Republican administration advocated halting arms supplies to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to encourage Kyiv to initiate peace talks.

Reports indicate that Russia is ramping up its offensive along the front line. However, despite losses, the occupiers have not achieved breakthroughs in the liberated east or in their own Kursk region.

"In Kyiv, there is deep disappointment with the outgoing administration. The new Trump administration has given people in Kyiv hope for a breakthrough. What that will look like is a question. But it is clear that the status quo will end," stated Lucian Kim, an analyst with the International Crisis Group, a conflict resolution organization.

Recall that, according to Reuters citing Donald Trump's advisors, the peace plan of the new U.S. administration will likely involve ceding large parts of Ukrainian territory to Russia and abandoning NATO membership.

On December 3, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine's plans remain unchanged and it must be stronger to end the war by 2025. In this context, he sent Russia "to hell."
