Renowned British chef and mother of three, Nadiya Hussain, has revealed that she maintains a so-called "escape fund" — her personal savings for emergencies that her husband Abdal is unaware of. In total, this amount is around £200,000 (10 million UAH), reports the Daily Mail.
The 39-year-old explained that this money would be used for rent or a deposit on purchasing her own home, should she need to leave the family residence for any reason.
"If it happens that I can't work for a certain period, I don't want to depend on anyone to meet my basic needs. You might assume that my marriage is unhappy, and I’m just waiting for the right moment to end it, but that’s far from the truth. My husband is generous, kind-hearted, and quite capable. He has made me very happy for over 30 years," the British woman explains.
She believes that the "escape fund" has significantly strengthened their relationship.
"I see this as a huge compliment to my husband because I choose to live with him, not because I have no other option. Isn't that a praise after so many years together?" Nadiya adds.
According to her, she and her husband have a joint account where both deposit money from their salaries. This way, they cover shared household expenses, including food and utility bills.
Interestingly, various surveys conducted by financial institutions over the years indicate that one in five people has their own secret stash.
Nadiya Hussain is a British chef, author, and television presenter. She gained fame after winning the sixth series of the BBC show The Great British Bake Off in 2015.
