The Russian Armed Forces continue to exert pressure on Ukrainian positions in Donbass, advancing towards the far western and northern outskirts of Toretsk. Additionally, the enemy has made gains south of Pokrovsk and acquired new territory near Kurakhovo. There are also developments on the front in the Kursk region. Information regarding the actions of the Russians near nine settlements in the Donetsk region and the situation on 7 square kilometers in the Kursk region is discussed in a report by analysts from the DeepState project on their Telegram channel.

Russian Offensive — Details of Events on January 8

Toretsk Direction. In Toretsk, the Russian Armed Forces continue to infiltrate new residential areas. According to analysts, the enemy has advanced two blocks (200 m) towards the western outskirts and another similar distance towards the northern outskirts. Approximately, the Armed Forces of Ukraine control half of the settlement, mainly the northern part, as indicated on the map.

Pokrovsk Direction. In this area, the Russian Armed Forces have achieved success at two points — near Novovasilyevka (moving towards the E50 road to Pavlograd and Dnipro) and near Slavyanka (closer to Kurakhovo, located further south).

Kurakhovo Direction. Meanwhile, the enemy has managed to occupy the Kurakhovo Thermal Power Plant, as shown by analysts on the combat operations map. The area marked in red was under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine just a day ago. It is likely that the Russian Armed Forces have advanced another 2 km along the reservoir. At the same time, the territory still visible is being encompassed by Russian troops from the north and south, yet Ukrainian units remain present there, according to DeepState data.

Additionally, there are certain changes to the south of Kurakhovo near the village of Yantarnoye. The map indicates a slight movement of the front line near this village — an additional 400 m along the local ponds.

Kupyansk Direction. On the front segment in the Kharkiv region, there has been a minor advance by the Russian Armed Forces near the village of Dvurechne. The distance the enemy has managed to cover is up to 1 km.

Vremivka Direction. Analysts have shown on the map that the Russian Armed Forces have expanded their foothold near Neskuny. No other changes in this direction were reported by the DeepState project.

Kursk Direction. The DeepState project has indicated movement of the front line near Sudzha in the Kursk region. Changes have occurred to the northwest of the city — near the villages of Nova Sorochina and Malaya Loknya. Approximately, a 2 km advance by the Russians has been observed, along with control over 5 square meters of territory. Analysts also noted that they are clarifying the situation to the east of Sudzha near the village of Makhnovka: changes of 2 square kilometers are visible at this point.

Ukrainian Armed Forces Command on Donbass and Kursk

In the report from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, released at 22:00 on January 7, there was no mention of the loss of the Kurakhovo Thermal Power Plant. The report also did not indicate any changes in the Kursk region. The command reported that the highest number of attacks by the Russian Armed Forces occurred near Pokrovsk (38), Vremivka (20), and Kurakhovo (17).
