In Kharkiv, there are no plans to dismantle the "Star" stele, which was erected in honor of the Kharkiv divisions.
This was reported by the Telegram channel "Decolonization. Ukraine," as conveyed by "Dumka."
Activists from the "Decolonization. Ukraine" project submitted a request to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, which in turn sought expertise from the Institute of National Memory.
The Institute of National Memory provided a professional conclusion and recommendations, stating that this monument does not fall under the laws of decommunization/decolonization.
"The aforementioned monument is associated with the resistance and expulsion of Nazi occupiers from Ukraine and does not contain restrictions established by current legislation," the response to the request noted.
It is worth reminding that the commemorative star-shaped stele, featuring the outlines of a Red Army soldier, was established on the 30th anniversary of the expulsion of the Nazis from Kharkiv (August 23, 1973).
Activists point out that the stele was only added to the registry of monuments in 2021.
