Starting in 2025, entry into the EU for Ukrainians will become subject to a fee if the new Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) comes into effect. All citizens from countries that are not members of the European Union will be required to obtain ETIAS in order to cross the borders of EU member states and the Schengen area. A state fee of 7 euros will be required to obtain the authorization. This is stated on the official ETIAS-INFO website here.
It is noted that a valid international passport is necessary to apply for ETIAS. The passport must be valid for more than 3 months after entering the EU, and it should not have been issued more than 10 years prior to the application.
Each applicant aged between 18 and 70 will need to pay a minimum state fee of 7 euros. There will be no fee for younger or older applicants.
The steps to obtain ETIAS are as follows:
The ETIAS website recommends applying in advance, as processing may take up to 96 hours. However, if interviews with EU authorities or additional information are required, the wait could extend to a month.
"If your ETIAS application has not yet been approved and you do not have another travel authorization, you will not be able to enter the EU," the instructions state.
The ETIAS authorization will be valid for three years or until the expiration of the passport. It can be used for stays in EU countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
ETIAS is planned to be implemented in spring 2025. After its launch, there will be a transitional period of 3-6 months during which ETIAS will not be mandatory for travel, as noted on the official website.
