Out of the 10 brigades that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested to be equipped by Western partners a year ago, the US and Europe have only equipped two and a half. This was stated by Zelensky himself in an interview with Sky News.
"They (the partners — ed.) talk about mobilization, but the real issue is with the 10 brigades that our partners have not equipped. I have been asking them for over a year that we need to equip these brigades. We made this decision with the United States and European allies, and to date, Europe and the United States have fully equipped only two and a half brigades," Zelensky said.
According to him, the main reason for such slow equipping is bureaucracy and "some decisions that are not considered a priority."
"Someone asked me about mobilization, and I don’t want to claim that this is the position of some leaders in Europe. They say young people are needed and so on. And I responded: do you want someone to go to their death without weapons?" Zelensky noted.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is determined with the aim of preserving as many lives as possible.
"If European or American officials have an idea regarding the age of mobilization, I want to ask our partners to do their job, and we will do ours," Zelensky emphasized.
Let us recall that on November 27, Reuters published a report stating that the US is demanding Ukraine to consider lowering the mobilization age to 18.
On the same day, the Office of the President responded to the US call to mobilize Ukrainians from the age of 18.
