The sculpture amazed the locals: while the creators call it art, the public perceives something entirely different (photo).

The sculpture "Vinca Shelter" was designed by British artists Rebecca and Mark Ford. Their work aims to reflect the rich history of the picturesque landscape.

At the observation deck of the "Medmerry" reserve near Chichester (United Kingdom), a 4.5-meter sculpture titled "Periwinkle Haven" has been installed. It is woven from willow branches and resembles a tiny sea snail. However, locals perceive the object of modern art differently and accuse officials of wasting taxpayer money. This was reported by the publication The Sun.

"The idea of decorating the coastline with a giant emoji resembling a poop is amusing, but considering the amount of untreated sewage in the sea, it might actually be quite appropriate," comments Solly Everett, a visitor to the reserve.

Others also shared their thoughts with journalists:

  • "This is a total waste of public funds. Couldn’t they come up with a better design than this? It's just ridiculous. Some absolute farce!";
  • "Didn’t anyone at any stage of designing this massive sculpture raise their hand and say, 'Excuse me, but it looks like a giant poop'?";
  • "It's great that we’re spending large sums of taxpayer money on public art, but there should definitely be more consultations about how it will look";
  • "I couldn't stop laughing when I saw this."

"Periwinkle Haven" was designed and installed by local artists Rebecca and Mark Ford from Two Circles Design. They aimed to reflect the ancient history of this picturesque spot, where archaeologists previously discovered periwinkle in the remnants of a medieval basket.

Additionally, tourists who visited the city of Verona (Italy) damaged the famous statue of Juliet. This sculpture was unveiled for public viewing in 1969 and is one of the main attractions of the city.
