A man near Kharkiv faces trial for blocking a water body with nets and harvesting fish worth nearly a million.

In the Kharkiv region, police apprehended a poacher who caused damage to the state amounting to over 0.76 million UAH.

This was reported by the communications department of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Kharkiv region, as conveyed by "Dumka".

According to the police, on November 14, a 34-year-old man was caught at the Pechenihy Reservoir while fishing with nets from a boat. The total length of the nets reached 91 meters.

Law enforcement officers confiscated a rubber boat, the nets, and 551 fish. The material damage inflicted by the poacher on the natural environment exceeds 760,000 UAH.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding this incident under Part 1 of Article 249 (illegal fishing, hunting, or other aquatic resource extraction) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalties under this article provide for up to three years of restriction of freedom.
