The Ministry of Education will terminate the rector's contract with Kharkiv MP Odarchenko, who was sentenced for corruption, according to Lisovyi.

In Kharkiv, the fugitive MP Andrey Odarchenko has been appointed as the rector of the State Biotechnology University.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine will terminate the contract with the rector of the State Biotechnological University (GBTU), Andriy Odarchenko, who was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property for corruption by the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine.

As reported by "Dumka," this was stated today, November 20, in Kharkiv by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovoy.

"There are currently legal procedures underway regarding Andriy Odarchenko. Naturally, the contract with him will be terminated. We have a fact of his violation of legislation, and that is sufficient. Once we receive the complete package of legal decisions regarding him, we intend to terminate this contract," said Lisovoy.

He added that the Defense Council of Kharkiv Oblast has decided to allow elections for university rectors to take place. The GBTU will also "be part of the electoral process."

It is worth noting that Odarchenko was re-elected as rector of the GBTU on December 29, 2021. The losing candidates during a joint press conference after the elections claimed there were numerous violations of the process and election fraud in favor of Odarchenko.

Following the elections, the Ministry of Education suspended Odarchenko's contract while he was serving in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. After his term ended, Odarchenko was supposed to head the GBTU, at that time he was the chairman of the university's Academic Council.

As reported by "Dumka," on November 21, 2023, a member of the Ukrainian parliament from Kharkiv, Andriy Odarchenko, was detained in Kyiv. He is suspected of attempting to bribe the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Mustafa Naiem, for the allocation of funds for the renovation of the building of the State Biotechnological University, where Odarchenko was elected rector. The parliament member is charged with committing a crime under part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (offering, promising, or providing illegal benefits to an official).

On November 22, the High Anti-Corruption Court chose a preventive measure for parliament member Andriy Odarchenko in the form of detention with the possibility of release on bail of 15 million UAH.

On November 24, it became known that the political party "Servant of the People" excluded Odarchenko from its ranks.

On November 25, it was reported that Odarchenko was released from the pre-trial detention center on bail of 15 million UAH.

On December 8, 2023, after his release from the pre-trial detention center, Odarchenko returned to work in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for the first time.

On December 20, the Appellate Chamber confirmed the legality of the previously applied preventive measure for Odarchenko, keeping him on bail.

On September 18, 2024, it was reported that Odarchenko fled Ukraine, crossing the border into Romania. The court also changed his preventive measure from bail to absent detention.

On November 14, 2024, the VAKS announced Odarchenko's sentence of 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
