Free screenings in Ukraine: what services are included in the family doctor's healthcare package.

In Ukraine, most health issues can be addressed by a family doctor or a physician whose services are included in the "Primary Medical Care" package, reported the National Health Service of Ukraine.

As explained by the NHSU, the primary medical care package includes:

• dynamic monitoring of patients' health conditions, diagnosis and treatment of the most common infectious and non-infectious diseases, injuries, poisonings, pathological and physiological conditions;
• laboratory diagnostics (general blood and urine tests, glucose, cholesterol, rapid tests);
• instrumental diagnostics (ECG, examination to monitor lung function, measurement of visual acuity, inspection of the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane).

This does not mean that you will have tests taken or an ECG performed in the doctor's office, or on the day of the appointment, the NHSU clarified. The agency noted that each primary medical care institution regulates these processes differently, and it also depends on the type of ownership of the facility.

"In any case, these examinations are free, regardless of where your declaration is — in a public or private institution or with a private entrepreneur doctor," the agency added.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health approved a list of diseases and conditions for which medical cannabis will be prescribed. These can only be obtained through an electronic prescription. It is expected that the use of these medications should be discontinued if the desired therapeutic effect is not achieved within 4-12 weeks.

At the end of November, it became known that family doctors in Ukraine will receive a salary increase. The budget for 2025 includes an increase in the capitation rate — the amount paid for the medical care of one patient.
