The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, shared his views on potential negotiations with Russia, emphasizing that support from the US and Europe will be crucial for achieving peace.
He made this statement in an interview with Lex Fridman's podcast, as reported by Glavpost.
According to Zelensky, the first step towards ending the war should involve cooperation with the future US President, Donald Trump. The Ukrainian President expressed his readiness to meet with him immediately after the inauguration on January 20, suggesting that the meeting could coincide with his birthday on January 25.
“We need to sit down with Trump and agree on how we can stop Putin,” Zelensky emphasized.
Only after obtaining security guarantees from the US and Europe is Ukraine prepared to discuss ways to resolve the conflict with Russia. The President stressed that negotiations with Moscow are only possible if they are based on solid international guarantees.
In his interview, Zelensky also pointed out that Russian leader Vladimir Putin fears Trump. He believes this could serve as an additional leverage in resolving the situation.
“Putin is afraid of Trump, and that’s a fact. This gives us room to maneuver,” the President of Ukraine added.
