Pistorius noted that the Russian defense industry is showing significant progress: the pace of tank and aircraft production is accelerating, and the size of the armed forces is increasing. It is projected that by 2026, the country’s army could reach 1.5 million personnel.
“Experts believe that by the end of this decade, Vladimir Putin may complete the reorganization of the armed forces, creating conditions for a potential conflict with NATO. This is a serious challenge that requires strategic preparation from us,” emphasized Pistorius.
To counter this threat, the North Atlantic Alliance must strengthen its defense capabilities. This includes both modernizing military technologies and increasing the number of allied troops. “We must be prepared. Ensuring reliable defense is a lengthy process that requires time and significant financial investments,” the minister added.
Despite the stated risks, the commander of NATO’s joint forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, noted that currently, Russia does not have sufficient military potential for large-scale offensive operations, including on Ukrainian territory. The main issues are related to a lack of manpower and logistics.
