European leaders warned Kyiv about the risks of freezing hostilities without a comprehensive peace agreement. European politicians believe that only clearly defined conditions for ending the war can ensure long-term stability in the region.
“We are ready to provide security guarantees, the details of which will be negotiated with each participant, taking into account the level of support from the United States,” stated one European official on the condition of anonymity.
Furthermore, representatives of the European Union expressed support for the position of U.S. President Donald Trump, who adheres to a strategy of "peace through strength." According to European leaders, a ceasefire without a full peace treaty could create new security threats.
The summit was attended by the heads of leading EU countries, including French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
In addition to them, the meeting included Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Danish Leader Mette Frederiksen, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa.
Following the meeting, participants emphasized the need to strengthen defense cooperation, increase investments in European security, and explore new ways to support Ukraine in its pursuit of peace.
