“Initially, the Ukrainian Armed Forces controlled approximately 1,300 square kilometers, but this figure has now decreased to around 750. This decline occurs against the backdrop of the Russian military increasing its efforts in this region,” Romanenko stated.
To contain the advance of Ukrainian troops, the enemy requires substantial forces. Romanenko noted that to push Ukrainian positions back to the border, between 80,000 and 120,000 servicemen are needed. According to him, Russia has redeployed up to 20 battalions to the Kursk region, which could amount to between 8,000 and 16,000 personnel.
“The occupiers are using a strategy of redeploying forces not as entire units, but by battalions, to maintain the combat capability of the remaining formations in the east,” emphasized the lieutenant general.
Romanenko also pointed out that some territories, including around ten settlements, are already under enemy control. However, active measures are ongoing on the Ukrainian side to counter the enemy.
“Although the actions have shifted to a defensive mode, it is still an active and mobile defense, which makes it quite complex,” he added.
We also remind you that Zelensky reacted to rumors about ceding territories in favor of Western guarantees.
