Pete Hegseth, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and former Fox News host, has become one of the most talked-about figures in the U.S. following his nomination for Secretary of Defense. The candidacy, proposed by Donald Trump, has sparked intense debate in the Senate.
This was reported by Glavpost, citing politexpert.net.
Hegseth was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A graduate of Princeton and Harvard, he showed an interest in Republican ideas from a young age. However, the lack of government experience has been the main argument against him from his opponents.
Hegseth began his career in 2003 as a market analyst but soon became an infantry officer in the Minnesota National Guard. He served at Guantanamo Bay and then voluntarily went to Iraq, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Later, he participated in missions in Afghanistan, specializing in counterinsurgency.
After completing his military service, Hegseth started working at Fox News, where he discussed the Republican agenda and conservative ideas.
Hegseth's appointment has drawn outrage due to his political views and past scandals. He has been accused of financial misconduct, inappropriate behavior, and alcohol abuse. Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called him "absolutely unqualified." Some moderate Republicans have also opposed Hegseth.
