Twenty-two American states have filed lawsuits against President Donald Trump's order, which ends the automatic granting of citizenship to children born on U.S. soil. This order was signed by Trump immediately following his inauguration.
Earlier, we reported on when Putin and Trump would meet, and what to expect from the negotiations.
The lawsuits have been filed in two federal courts. In Massachusetts, 18 states, including California and New York, submitted a lawsuit, and later, four more states joined a similar suit.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta described the order as unconstitutional and emphasized its anti-American nature.
“The court must immediately block the enforcement of this order to protect the rights of children born in the U.S. while legal proceedings are ongoing,” Bonta stated.
The legal battle over this issue could become one of the most significant human rights struggles in the U.S.
